About the Show

Weekend two of the Festival plays host to the big Art Adventure. On Saturday 17 February join Festival Curators Anne Loxley and Felicity Fenner on a visual arts tour of Festival Exhibitions. Meet the artists and hear from them about their visually eloquent responses to the world.

10am At John Curtin Gallery direct from the 2017 Venice Biennale, Lisa Reihana brings her cinematic re-imagining of Captain Cook’s discoveries in the Pacific. Join Chris Malcolm – Director of John Curtin Gallery for a conversation around this must see exhibition.

11.30am Explore the devastating impacts of climate change through Latai Taumopeau’s Repatriate at  Fremantle Arts Centre with Anne Loxley.

1pm At Lawrence Wilson Art Gallery Zadok Ben-David brings optimism and a touch of magic to environmental questions in his exhibition Human Nature. Professor Ted Snell and Felicity Fenner these breathtaking installations.

3pm A conversation with Pilar Mata Dupont and FORM Curator Mollie Hewitt on Dupont’s Undesirable Bodies – this story of invasion and conservation set in the Pilbara at FORM Gallery.

 

4pm At Gallery Central Perth’s Christopher Charles delves into the mystery of the Japanese doomsday cult that lived in outback WA in the early 1990s through his work Banjawarn.

5pm Art Gallery of WA, Enjoy an after-hours preview of South Korean artist Kimsooja’s Sewing into Walking, a work which complements her first solo exhibition in Australia at PICA.

5.30pm In her first solo exhibition in Australia South Korean Kimsooja mixes up the everyday with the mystical in Zone of Nowhere. Join PICA Senior Curator Eugenio Viola and Kimsooja at  Perth Institute of Contemporary Arts for a  discussion on her work followed by drinks and nibbles to finish up an extraordinary day of immersion in brilliant art.
