About the Show

See here for the Auslan Interpreted Sessions:

The sessions are all at The Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery, one after another on the Friday and Saturday in the Central Gallery.

  • Friday 6th August:
6:00pm- Welcome to Country, Barbara Holland and David Flannery
7:20pm- Science Unfiltered
8:30pm- First Dog and Kudelka on Science and Cartoons
  • Saturday 7th August:
6:00pm- Maggie Walter and Veena Sahajwalla
8:10pm- Debate! You can’t handle the scientific truth! (Let me know if this is too hard to be Auslan interpreted)
  • Ticket Info:

All of these are ticketed at $20 Full and $15 Concession and we also have “A seat at the table” which is a pay it forward style donation and anyone can email us on no questions asked to request a free ticket.
At the entryway to the museum there will be a “ticketed” queue and a “general entry” queue. If someone is coming just for their ticketed talk they can bypass general entry and the capacity restrictions and go straight through to their talk, otherwise if someone wants to come early they can line up for free entry into the festival. Once inside they will need to go to the central gallery (there will be signage) and line up again to get their tickets checked for entry into their talk. Once the talk is finished they will be able to roam about the festival.

Beaker Street Festival is an annual celebration of science and art in lutruwita/Tasmania. We’ve packed some of the most engaging scientists, compelling ideas, and innovative artworks you’ll find in Australia into a nine-day extravaganza that covers nearly every corner of our beguiling island.

From the Festival Hub at the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery to small-group talks and dinners with scientists on the Tassie Science Road Trip to our Dark Sky Party at Spring Bay Mill, Beaker Street Festival invites you to explore Tasmania as you’ve never seen it before.

Some offerings are free, some are ticketed, and all are informed by the best available science around keeping people safe in this Covid moment. Please take note of entry requirements, and make sure to check out the full program – there’s a lot going on, and we don’t want you to miss any of it.
