About the Show

As the eldest daughter of a rural Mormon family, Jess was taught her body was off limits. The church taught her a woman’s primary purpose was to become a mother, but being born with a disability and no uterus, how would that work?

When she realises her younger sister is having sex, Jess starts to wonder what she’s missing out on. And so the journey away from the church and into the world of punk boys, broken hearts, backseat fumbling, and solo self-discovery leads her to places she never thought she’d be, learning all the things her doctors, bishop and parents never thought to tell her.

Mormon Girl is Jess Knight’s hilarious, bizarre and beautiful coming of age story.

Jess Knight is a Melbourne-based feminist, writer, poet and artist. She has published a number of poetry collections, was a Wheeler Centre hotdesk fellow and has been mentored by Angela Meyer through the Writeability program. She has performed at Scribble, National Young Writers Festival, Emerging Writers Festival, and Small and Loud. Jess was also a participant in Malthouse Theatre’s Besen Family Artist Program.

The creative development of Mormon Girl was generously supported by Creative Victoria.
