FILM SCREENING & TALK: SUFFRAGETTE
The talk , after the film will be Auslan interpreted (approx 3.45pm -430pm including audience questions)

See the women’s suffrage movement brought to life with a screening of Suffragette (2015), inspired by the current display of material from the British Suffragette Movement drawn from the Krystyna Campbell-Pretty AM and the Campbell-Pretty Family Suffrage Research Collection.

Includes a post-screening talk on the Australian women’s suffrage movement by historian Clare Wright.

Starring Carey Mulligan, Meryl Streep and Helena Bonham Carter, Suffragette (2015) tells the story of the women’s suffrage movement in the UK.

The screening marks the 30th anniversary of the Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW), an international treaty adopted by the United Nations General Assembly and enacted on 3 September 1979.

Speaker

Dr Clare Wright is an Associate Professor of History at La Trobe University. Clare is an award-winning historian and author who has worked as an academic, political speechwriter, historical consultant and radio and television broadcaster. Clare has written two historical documentaries for ABC TV and is the writer/host of Radio National’s history podcast, Shooting the Past. Her latest book is You Daughters of Freedom: The Australians Who Won the Vote and Inspired the World (Text), the second installment of her Democracy Trilogy.
